It's Getting Chilly!

Thanks to all you families for making sure your kiddos are coming to school equipped to face the cold weather! We’ve had a great week, with some fun indoor and outdoor activities. This week we created a “stage” in the woods, and have had a lot of fun reenacting “The Little Red Hen”, along with our own made up acts. Students have created self portraits using natural materials, and have made AB patterns using leaves and sticks.

In the classroom we used liquid watercolor paints and eye droppers to make beautiful autumn leaves, and we used a hand-crank grain mill to grind our buckwheat seeds into flour! We’ll cook up some pancakes on Friday - anyone have maple syrup to donate?

Our Kindness Curriculum work this week has focused on recognizing emotions in ourselves and in others. The ability to recognize emotions forms the foundation for empathy, a quality that we strive to nourish in all of our kiddos.

Next week is Halloween! Students can keep their costumes at home because we’ll be turning into woodland creatures of our own at school. If you’re looking for somewhere to trick-or-treat on Halloween night, check out the events happening at the town library in Guilford Center (see the school newsletter for more information). It’s the best, and over at a reasonable time!

Finally, you’ll see in this week’s folder a packet for our Farm to School fundraiser. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Farm to School, a program that funds our cooking supplies and ingredients, our gardens, and our awesome farm to school coordinator. The class that sells the most pizzas gets a pizza party!

During our Kindness time we put heavy stones on our bellies and practice focused breathing, watching the stones go up and down.
