It was our first cold week in pre-k, and these kiddos fared the weather with style. I'll keep the newsletter short this week, but please enjoy the pictures of your children at play.
Don't forget to pick up your child's "packet" at school, available after 2:30 today. In the packet you'll also find a few handouts that I typically distribute at conferences for grownups about ways to support your child's development. Looking forward to seeing you all at conferences!
A small group of children worked together to build this "obstacle course." Soon everyone in the class was trying it out! Then it became a house and the kids went to sleep because it was "pretend night."
Some more building. This was a tunnel for some dogs to crawl through.
It was so windy on Monday that we spent some time playing out in the field, drinking tea in the "Gazillion" (as one child called it), and enjoying the warmth provided by the new walls put up by our custodian.
So much good balancing!
We're starting to do some work with patterns. Ask your child if they can remember the pattern song! Unifix cubes were a big hit.
We've also enjoyed more fun experiments. We added liquid food coloring to vinegar, then used droppers to add it to a tray of baking soda.
These kids got so good at using tools at the pumpkin factory we figured it was time to do some more challenging work. Some kids were very interested in sawing and hammering with real tools and real wood.
He planned what he wanted to make, hammered it together, and decorated!
We finally harvested the potatoes that last year's pre-k planted. And there were SO many!
I guess we'll be cooking a lot of potato dishes over the fire!
We chose sit spots this week! We'll start visiting our spots most days and make observations, notice change over time, and get connected to one special spot in the woods. This kiddo has a wonderful spot that he can climb!
