Forest for the Trees

We have a lot of pictures to share from the past two weeks, so we'll leave you with just a couple of announcements.

First, ticks are out! Please do your tick checks at home every night!

Second, (and writing this is making me already miss this group) we have a visiting student day for incoming pre-k families on the afternoon of June 5th. That means that there will be an early release for THIS pre-k, with pick up at 12:00 that day. Put it on your calendars.

Lots to see now, enjoy!

Snow is gone, water and mud are here. That means...potions!

These two are stirring up a good brew.

A spontaneous rock band! Mr. G came to show this crew the different parts of a guitar, and they quickly created their own.

Did your child tell you the story about Cheese Please (the mouse)?

She and her two siblings caught themselves in our trash can in the shed, and we were able to transfer her into our terrarium (the other two got away).

Such a great opportunity for observation and research!

Meanwhile, we cooked bread-on-a-stick over the fire.

This is Cheese Please's swimming pool.

In a different exploration, we've been trying to answer the question "Can trees without leaves be alive?"

These kiddos are using peelers to look under the bark of some "trees without leaves".

Ask your child what they saw, and what they think!

This puddle has a friendly monster living at the bottom of it.

If you stand still in the puddle you can sometimes feel it tickle your toes.

Squirrel watching, bird watching

Making mini-forests with clay and twigs

Kneading some bread dough, getting ready to make some letter-buns!

Wow is it wet! These kids don't mind.

A new fun location for our morning sign-in chart

And we'll leave you with this great brainstorm. As we get ready to embark on our next unit looking at the tiny world around us (with the help of a high-powered digital microscope) we thought about the smallest things we can see with just our eyes. Here's the list:

a ladybug
sand
a ball
frog eggs
worm eggs
a tiny cocoon
an ant
a baby eagle egg
a little spider
an aphid
a baby octopus
a crumb

Stay tuned for more to come on all things tiny!
