Snow to Sun

For the first time in a loooooong time, we didn't wear snow pants into the forest today!!!!!!! It's been a long cold spring, but when faced with more snow on Monday morning this optimistic group shouted "we get to go sledding!" "I get to be a snowshoe hare!!" "Let's make a snowman!" Wow, these kiddos are a gift to be around.

Check out the packets coming home in backpacks today. They include some tips about sleep hygiene (useful for grown ups too), an "Eat the Rainbow" tracker, some artwork, and more.

Speaking of "Eat the Rainbow", along with the help of Farmer Amy, we'll take the next few weeks to introduce nutritious and delicious fruits and vegetables to your children. We started today with RED foods, and learned that red foods are good for our hearts. Did you know that doctors recommend a MINIMUM of 5 fruits or veggies every day?? The "Eat a Rainbow" tracker can help with motivation - put it on the fridge and give it a try!

Enjoy some pictures from the week...

Snow?!?

These kids were pumped.

Snow popsicles all around, and...

a bacon shop!

We're doing a lot of great exploration with our microscope, looking at all sorts of objects from the classroom.

Next week we'll start to collect living samples outside to observe.

But before we bring tiny lives into the classroom we needed to brainstorm about how we should treat them. Here are a couple of ideas, all tied together with a general theme of kind compassion :)

"Stick bugs blend into trees. No grabbing it and breaking off it because their legs look like branches."

"If we put a turtle under the microscope I don't know what we'll find, but we'll treat it gentle."

"This is a baby spider and I made it a bed and a blanket. I think it will like it when I take a picture."

"Bring them to a hospital and give them some shots."

After brainstorming we read this book that takes the perspective of both an ant, and a boy who wants to squish the ant.

No snow on Tuesday, and some good experimentation making paint with charcoal.

Writing a letter for a friend.

Mailing some letters with our pulley system.

Frozen puddles never get old!

Eat the Rainbow!

Ask your child about the foods they tried.

It's warming up, and tiny creatures are emerging.
