Here We Go!

What a fun-filled first week with this wonderful group of kids! The beginning of the school year in pre-k means a LOT of teaching of rules and routines. We move slowly, covering a few things a day, but before we know it we’ll have a well oiled machine. This week we’ve learned and practiced three out of our five classroom rules:
We take care of our things.
We use kind words.
We use gentle touches.
Outside in the woods we’ve been exploring, playing with sticks, using pots and pans in the mud kitchen, catching salamanders and worms, digging with shovels, and reading books in our “Cozy Shed.” Soon we’ll start going on “expeditions” to visit the school garden and other parts of the forest.

Remember that our first full day of school is on Wednesday the 11th. We’ll eat lunch in the classroom, have rest time, then head to specials (see the schedule in the newsletter). Make sure that your child has a pair of gym shoes to keep at school - we’ll use these every Tuesday and Thursday for gym class in the afternoon.

First day of school, first trip to the woods!

This pile of pine needles started out small, but soon there were four kids working together to make it gigantic.

We've slowly introduced different parts of our block center. These kids worked together to make some fun structures with hollow blocks and unit blocks.

We introduced dot makers, and kids worked with a buddy to create a picture.

Our "Cozy Shed" is a popular place to look at books with friends.

Check out this teamwork! These kids actually managed to role this huge log.

This one proved to be a little harder to move...

...but they kept on trying!
