It's Getting Chilly!

Thank you for dressing your children for success this week - we're still happily spending our mornings outside despite the increasing cold. As the weather gets colder and colder we'll eventually transition to an inside start, but we'll keep you posted.

The oncoming winter means LOTS of opportunities for your children to dress themselves. Putting on indoor shoes can be particularly tricky! But your child is capable of so much, and you can help support their independence by teaching them how to take care of themselves. In school we’re supporting children in putting on their own shoes when we come in from outside. We remind kids to loosen up the tongue, use your hands, slide one finger behind your heel and push! Give your kiddos the time and space to practice this on their own, and before you step in to help ask yourself “Do they truly need my help?”

Don't forget about the free literacy event on Wednesday the 16th from 4:00-5:00 pm at Brattleboro Early Childhood Center (112 Canal St, across from Vegan AF). I'll be there, along with other early childhood educators handing out snacks, books, and hosting all sorts of fun literacy-based activities. Stop on by!

Enjoy a few pictures from the week, and don't forget there's no school on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. 😮

These two are using all their senses for some birdwatching.

Last week we dipped some leaves in wax, and this week we worked on stringing them up with beads to create beautiful mobiles. Some went home, and some are hanging in the indoor classroom.

We have a new addition to our mud kitchen! Julianne donated this from her house, which means that we'll soon be able to tear down the old one. Hurray!

Did you know that drawing and painting on vertical surfaces is a great way to develop the shoulder and arm strength that is necessary to grip a pencil?! Future writers here...

A close look at a playground daddy longlegs sparked many observations from this kiddo.

Amber from the Guilford Free Library read us a story on Wednesday! She's going to join us weekly to help create a connection between the school and the town library. You all should swing by there after school sometime to check out books! Open after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

In exciting news, we got the train set out this week! And we're working on our train-themed playlist, if you have any suggestions.

This group of fire fighters is rescuing a kitty from this burning building!

On Friday morning we came inside for a bit to bake some apple bread.

We read a recipe, measured and stirred...

and even peeled and cored a couple of apples.

And of course, did the dishes when we were done!

I hope you have a beautiful Indigenous People's Weekend. We'll see you on THURSDAY next week.
