Welcome to the Pre-k weekly newsletter! We've had such a wonderful start to the year with this incredibly thoughtful, silly, and caring group of kids. Thank you for sending them to school well rested and ready to play. The beginning of the year brings SO much new learning as we very slowwwwwly introduce materials, rules and routines. So far we've focused a lot on our three class rules:
*We use kind words
*We use gentle touches
*We take care of our classroom
Stating these rules in the "positive" (rather than "no hitting", etc) makes it clear exactly what we want children to do, helping to create pro-social behavior. We try hard to bring this positive language to all of our interactions with the kids.
There are a lot of pictures from the first week and a half (hard to believe it's only been a week and a half!), and a lot to share - enjoy!
Trucks, magnetiles, and toy animals were some of the first toys we introduced in the classroom.
A garden scavenger hunt last week revealed some cool caterpillars!
Ask your kiddo about the "Golden Stick". While we're learning how to use sticks safely in the beginning of the year we use the Golden Stick to help us know what lengths are okay to play with.
The beginning of a fun excavation project...
The mud kitchen has been a popular spot.
Creating social connections and learning names is a big focus in the beginning of the year. These two are using some tools during our "buddy time," when they choose an activity with one other friend.
These two butterflies are excited about our costume bin.
Blocks! So much fun.
These two buddies are giving Rebecca Mouse a ride.
"King of the Wolves" with a friend, running over to join a group of other wild animals.
Caterpillars are everywhere! This kiddo found a wooly bear at their rest spot and did an excellent portrait.
One of our caterpillars escaped the terrarium and built its chrysalis next door.
And...another escaped and is getting ready to metamorphosize in a different surprise location.
Melissa introduces geoboards.
Painting is one of our favorite buddy activities. These two covered the entire paper!
We try to take a daily "expedition" out of Wildwood Forest into the beyond, and the Willow Field is a popular location. These kiddos are using some tools to free the sandbox from all of the grass that is growing in it.
Ask your child what we saw trying to enter into Wildwood Forest while we did a waste-sorting activity with Farmer Sarah. Hint: They have 2 legs and live in a flock.
And here's the recipe we used today to make fresh garden salsa. Yum!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
