It's been a full and eventful week in pre-k! This week we embarked on a fun study of musician Nina Simone. We read a book about her life, and learned about her important role during the Civil Rights Movement. If you haven't heard her music you can start with this song: I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free. We were so inspired that we wrote our own "I Wish" songs. The kids thought hard about what they would wish for to make the world a better place - check them out along with our painting of the gorgeous Nina Simone, hanging outside the pre-k classroom.
I'll be away next Wednesday, Thursday, Friday before the Winter break, heading on a big trip with my family. Melissa and Janice will hold down the fort!
Here are a few pics from the week :)
We had a special request to start a "hair salon" on the dramatic play area.
One of our first customers was Mr. G!
These bald eagles are setting up a movie theater in this fort.
Our ice from weeks ago is still floating around the forest, a fun treasure to collect, and a testament to how cold it's been!
We made black bean brownies over the fire on Wednesday!
Here's a link to the recipe - so good, and sneakily healthy :)
Still so much snow!
This is the start of an incredibly detailed replica of Wildwood Forest and the school grounds that kids worked on over the course of the week.

Painting Nina...
These two are cutting out paper circles to collage onto our Nina Simone poster. Make sure you check it out!
