Back Into the Swing of Things

Back from vacation, back into the swing of things. It’s clear that this class has learned a lot this fall, because it was no problem for them to transition back to school from vacation. They know our rules and routines, and have been having a lot of fun playing with their friends again.

We’ve been spending a lot of time this week getting ready for our first outdoor fire. We’ve built some play fires inside and outside in the woods, and have practiced staying safe with calm bodies around our real fire pit. On Friday we’ll give it a go with a REAL fire!

On Tuesday we said goodbye to our classmate Emma Crandall, who has moved out of Guilford. We had a nice going away celebration for her that included ooblek (ask your child), cider, and crackers. We’ll miss Emma!

Please make sure that your child comes to school with warm clothing, including hats and mittens or gloves! If you would like to send in snow pants and boots to keep at school that is also great!

Warming her hands on our indoor "practice" fire.

A cozy fire in the classroom.

Fun on the see-saw

Loving a tree!

This fallen birch tree has been excavated with some steadfast hard work this week!

A smaller version of our fire pit - another place for practice.

We read Dr. Seuss's Bartholomew and the Ooblek on Emma's last day, and made our very own ooblek!

And suddenly the classroom was very quiet...
