Valentine's Week

Happy Valentine’s Day! We had a nice time handing out valentines to our classmates yesterday, and eating chocolate covered strawberries (thanks Lucas!).

Our woods time this week has been particularly exciting because of our new Kelly Kettle. We are now able to build a fire in a contained stove and heat up water for tea out in the woods. We also got a new class set of stainless steel mugs, and have been making tea with mint we harvested from the garden this fall.

Our work with the kindness curriculum continues. On Wednesday we made “peace jars.” Sometimes our minds get very busy and filled with angry or excited feelings, and it is hard to calm down and see things clearly. Children can shake the Peace Jar when they are feeling upset or over-excited and watch those feelings and thoughts settle down just like the glitter in the Peace Jar. This is another way to care for ourselves.

Take some time to have your child tell you how they made the Peace Jar and show you how to use it. These are for your children to keep at home.

Making Valentines

Glitter everywhere!

Working together to make a cool castle.

We crumbled up dried mint and put it in tea bags for woods tea time.

Rice in the sensory table

Chocolate covered strawberry - yum!

Thanks to the Wilcox family for the delicious treat.

Getting the fire started in the Kelly Kettle

Warming up water for tea.

Our new supplies have made tea time in the woods so much easier.

Cheers!

We found a highway of deer tracks coming through the field and into the woods. Perfect for an expedition of kids to explore.
