Busy Little Bees

It’s project time! There’s been a lot of industriousness in pre-k this week. Between animal homes, new swings in the woods, and imaginative block building, we’ve had a week full of projects.

Thanks to some inspiration from our fourth grade buddies, this week we started building a bar and swing to play on in the woods. We use a big wheel barrow to cart loads of wood chips into the the woods to provide cushioning under the swings.

We’ve also started learning about what products come from trees. The kids were fascinated to learn that pencils, musical instruments, and even paper come from trees. Talk to your children about things that are made out of wood so we can add to our big brainstorm  list.

The class has loved hearing some classic folk tales this week, including multiple versions of “Henny Penny,” and “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.” What are your memories of these stories from when you were a kid?

When we come back from vacation we’ll be starting a unit about tools. If you have any of the following materials to donate to the class we’d happily take them off your hands:
-small scraps of wood to be used in simple building projects

-screws, nails, or other fasteners
-books about building or tools
Fourth graders had a great idea to make some swings out in the woods!

We started with a bar...

...and worked together to haul a few loads of wood chips as cushioning.

We found some more rope in the shed, and built a swing.

Meanwhile, out on the school playground, crocuses are starting to bloom!

Same shoes!

And we continue to have great fun inside as well - this block structure was intricate and symmetrical.
