What a beautiful week! We’ve loved our time outside, making new discoveries every day. When we entered the woods on Monday one student remarked “It feels like a rainforest in here.” We have leaves! We’ve found all sorts of interesting critters this week, from grubs and worms to an amazing tree frog.
Our tools study is turning more towards construction, as we build with many different kinds of blocks in the classroom, and continue to hammer and saw out in the woods.
We are also having a great time watching our little aquatic environments change. The tadpoles have mostly hatched and happily eat the wilted lettuce we feed them. The salamanders are equally as happy in their murky tank. Meanwhile, it’s day 11 of 21 for our chick incubation. Ask your child what’s happening inside the chicken eggs today!
In addition to all the animal fun, we have a new student who has joined our class! He’ll be with us until the end of the year, and will also be going to kindergarten in the fall. Welcome Cole!
Tomorrow (Friday) we are having an exciting (albiet unrelated to our theme studies) visit from a local police officer. He’ll be joining our morning meeting and answering questions from the class. There has been so much imaginary play involving police officers and police cars that we figured we had to have one come into the class in person!
We found an amazing tree frog perched on a branch
You can't see it here, but the insides of its legs are bright yellow
Fairy house? No, slug house.
New trucks create great opportunities to practice sharing
We brought new blocks into the classroom, and have made some impressive structures.
A structure that can even fit a kid!
Working hard to climb a new tree
A truck, fenders, running boards, and all
This wall fell down about 10 times, and got rebuilt again and again
