Pre-K or Menagerie?

It’s been an eventful couple of weeks in the pre-k. Here’s a list of some of the projects and activities we’ve had fun with:

-Kathy Wilkin (town librarian) brought her bottle fed lamb to the woods for story time.
-We started making an alphabet of letters found in nature (check out the wall by the dramatic play area).
-Kids have been making great forts out in the woods, large and small!
-We have a resident red squirrel who likes to visit our eating area after snack. She’s been great fun to watch.
-The chicks hatched!!!!!! We had 17 out of 19 eggs hatch - a great success! The kids have LOVED watching them, holding them, and naming them! Some of the names include Jenny, Henny, Penny, Tenny, Cutie Pie, Nicky, Feedy Feed, and Paper. Have another good chick name? The naming rights are up for grabs.

For the last couple of weeks of school we’ll be doing a little garden study. We’ll plant  seeds, do some experiments, some seed sorting, and get dirty in the garden. If you have OLD seeds at your house that you’d like to donate to our sensory bin please send them in. We’re also looking for donations of perennial herbs and flowers, so be in touch if you have some you’d be willing to dig up.

Finally, remember that there’s NO SCHOOL TOMORROW! It’s visiting day for the incoming pre-k. Enjoy your long weekend!

These guys had great fun experimenting with the pulley and bucket. They tried to send many different items up and down, even their own bodies!

Nature Letter!

They tried to make it touch the ceiling, but couldn't quite reach...

Kathy's lamb "Pip" visited us in the woods last week.

Tying fabric scraps along a string - great fine motor practice, and it helps make the string visible to kids running through the woods. On the other side of the string is a miniature "peep" village.

A scale model of the Franklin Farm.

How many chicks can we fit in Erin's lap?!

This chick desperately needed a bath.

This little chick seems a bit confused.

We loved holding the chicks - the kids were all very gentle using their cupped hands.

Too bad they can't stay little forever!
