Summer Summer

It may feel like summer is just around the corner, but for these young kiddos three weeks is a long time! Everyone has gotten so good at our classroom routines, and we haven’t yet any of those pre-summer-vacation jitters. What a joy it is to be with your kids!

This week we started a study of gardening. We’ve read a couple of great books, including Muncha, Muncha, Muncha by Candace Flemming. The kids have had a good time acting out the story of Mr. McGreely trying to protect his garden from some cleaver rabbits. In addition to gardening books, we’ve planted sunflower seeds in pots, and have started an experiment germinating bean seeds in plastic bags. We also have some new raised beds outside the classroom that we’ll be working on planting in the coming  weeks.

Please note that Friday June 8th is a school-wide field day. We’ll have water games and activities set up on the front lawn, so you’ll need to send your child to school with a bathing suit, towel, and change of clothes. The Blueberry Haus is also visiting in the afternoon to give a free ice cream cone to every kid in the school.

Also, don’t forget about the pre-k cookout in the woods on Friday the 8th at 5:00. Erin and I will provide hot dogs to roast over the fire. Feel free to bring a side, or just come. If anyone would like to bring s’mores fixings I’m sure the kids would be thrilled!

Still having fun with tools out in the woods.

These guys worked together to build a bench.

Ask your child to tell you about the book the chicks made for us.

The woods stay so nice and cool on these hot days.

Such focus

Kids had a great time drawing pictures of the chicks last week.

These kiddos spent a couple of hours making a garden in a shady corner of the woods.

Picture taken seconds before these stacks toppled over!
