First Weeks!

Welcome to the 2018/19 Pre-k Blog! I'll post pictures and updates here most weeks, so feel free to subscribe, bookmark, or just link from the class Facebook Page. Thanks for your patience as we've collected permissions to post pictures from families. I hope you enjoy this peek into your kids' time at school!

We’ve had a full week, with rain, snack outside, and our first FULL DAYS! The class has been doing great learning our routines. Here are a few highlights from the week:

-On Monday we learned how to use scissors, and learned how to put on our rain suits. We also harvested mint from the garden to dry for tea.

-On Tuesday we practiced riding on the bus, and painted with friends outside in the woods.

-On Wednesday we had our first REALLY rainy day. We ate snack outside in our “rain house,” as the kids were calling it. We also learned how to use shovels and rakes outside in the woods. We had lunch and rest inside, before splitting into groups for library and classroom play time.

-Thursday is our first day of gym class, much to the delight of the group.

-We’ve used stories, puppet shows, and circle time conversations to continue practicing our rules of using gentle hands with our friends, kind words, and taking care of our things. This is the big work of preschool!

A great highlight of the week has been the budding friendships. I’ll put together a class contact list in the coming week so that you all can set up playdates outside of school.

Kids quickly figured out where to look for interesting creatures.

The "golden stick" shows us the length of sticks we're allowed to play with right now.

A carefully built fairy house.

There's never any shortage of materials to collect in the forest.

There's a fairy house down there somewhere!

Twin acorns!

Careful balancing of our stumps.

The pulley is a popular play spot.

In the classroom we roll out "work mats" to do puzzles and play games.

We've had some fun with chalk :)

Can you find the yellow caterpillar?

Yes, I got a parking ticket.

Such careful focus!

Expedition to the garden to harvest mint.

A new fort with friends.

How many slugs are in the basket?

Our first time painting - everything is more fun outside!

Such an exciting expedition to ride the bus!

Our RAINY Wednesday didn't slow this group down.

The first outdoor snack was memorable, and a little wet.
