Happy November! We had a fun Halloween day dressing up as woodland creatures. Your children became foxes, mice, bees, dragonflies, and bears, and truly embodied the spirit of their animals as they ran in packs through the woods.
We continue to use our small group time to introduce kids to different activities. This week we collected and sorted objects for a new nature museum, played with stump geoboards, and made the letter H with sticks.
When we design small group activities we always think about the developmental opportunities we can give kids. Sorting is a great way to develop the foundational math skill of classification, and is something you can do at home with your child. Have your child help put their clothes away in their dresser, put away dishes, or make a game of sorting rocks or leaves by color or shape.
Last Friday we took the final step in our farm-to-table harvest project and made buckwheat pancakes! Over the course of the past few weeks the kids have harvested the buckwheat, threshed the seeds from the plants, ground the seeds into flour, and made pancakes! Thanks to the syrup donation from the Gaines’s we had every child in the class try the pancakes and give an overwhelming thumbs up.
If you haven’t had a chance to schedule a parent-teacher conference please email me, grab me at pick up or drop off, or call the office to do so. I’m looking forward to talking with you all about your wonderful children!
