Giving Thanks

It feels like there’s so much to catch you all up on since taking a week off from the newsletter. Here are a few things that have happened in pre-k in the past two weeks:
  • We got a worm bin! Thanks to a donation from the after school program, we have the ability to compost food scraps right in the classroom. As you can imagine a sensory exploration of the bin was great fun.

  • We’ve started a new study of blocks and building. We have a “wood shop” in our dramatic play area, and are exploring new and different blocks this week. After vacation we’ll start some work building towers inside and forts and shelters outside.

  • Our “kindness” work has focused on what to do with big emotions. Everyone in the class made a peace jar that was sent home (if yours is leaking, send it back in and we’ll glue it with a hot glue gun). Ask your child how to use it!

  • Outside we planted bulbs near the entrance of the woods, created a nature museum and sorted the collections, and started doing some story telling about fire. After vacation we’ll do weekly fires during our morning woods time.

  • Joan from BEEC continues to visit every week - last Thursday we made some nature art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

  • We discovered a new hiking and cross country ski trail made by the Guilford Rec Commission that goes right by our outdoor classroom. Our expeditions on the trail have been  a great way to warm up chilly little fingers and toes!

See information in the newsletter about our pre-k Solstice celebration and an exciting workshop on positive parenting for families, both coming up in December.
