Folk Tales

Welcome back! This class has jumped right back into the swing of things, almost as if we had never had a break. We started a new unit studying classic folk tales. So far we’ve focused on the Three Billy Goats Gruff, reading the story multiple times, acting it out with puppets, and noticing the differences between the numerous versions we have in our class library. We’ve also read Little Red Riding Hood, and the class has really enjoyed looking through all of the familiar tales on our display shelves.

Our social-emotional work continues, with a focus this week on listening to ideas from a friend. This is an important play skill! We practiced working with buddies to build bridges, asking “what do you want to do?” Or “What’s your idea?”  Our teaching team continues to meet monthly with a Pyramid Model coach, focusing on broad classroom practices and specific problem solving involving our teaching of social emotional skills.

Kids worked with assigned buddies to build a bridge, using language like "what do you want to make?" or "what's your idea?"

Some teams joined together to make really BIG bridges!

Our cart has been resurrected from the shed, much to the delight of the class.

This guy worked hard to match the numbers on all those dominos.

It's been cold enough to make ice ornaments again!

A peaceful lookout

Spiral gems in glitter sand - is preschool the most fun?!

This team had a sophisticated operation making "money" today. One person filled the sink, one pushed it through the drain hole, and the other shoveled it from underneath.

Color explorations with ice and liquid watercolors.

A tie-died snowball

Rolling giant snowballs into puddles seems to be a favorite past-time of this crew!
