Chicks are Here!

Exciting times in pre-k: our chicks are here! We’ve been eagerly counting the days, waiting for DAY 21, and sure enough when we came into school on Wednesday there were cracks in many of the eggs. At the end of the day on Wednesday the class got to watch our first chick hatching - pure magic! We’ve set up a brooder and will have a noisy peeping classroom for the next week or so while the chicks gain their strength and get ready to go to their new homes.

Our garden study has started, and so far we’ve read books, planted seeds out in our raised beds, and started a bean germinating experiment. Our dramatic play area is turning into a farm stand - if you have any berry boxes or pretend fruits and veggies we’d love to borrow them from you for a couple of weeks!

Finally, this Friday we say goodbye to Kristine for the rest of the year. See her note below - luckily she’ll be back in the fall. Taylor Franklin will be covering most of the rest of the school year for Kristine.

Dear Pre-K Families.

I’m writing to let you know that I will be taking the rest of the school year off, due to an upcoming surgery. I plan on returning in the fall. I’ve enjoyed getting to know all of your sweet children and will miss exploring with them! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful children with us each day. I’m grateful that I will continue to see their sweet faces across the hall in Kindergarten!

Wishing you all a wonderful rest of the year/summer!   -Kristine

Fun with friends on another rainy Friday!

getting creative with construction paper and tape

We harvested some castings from our worm bin, and our class plants are very happy.

This chickadee visited us while the kids were at their "sit spots" at the end of woods time, clearly gathering materials for its nest.

The green of the woods is so welcoming and comforting.

Sarah helped us with a fun fabric art project on Tuesday.

Carefully waiting for DAY 21!

A couple of the eggs "pipped" on Thursday, and by the end of the day one of the chicks hatched under the watchful eyes of enthusiastic kids.

Look carefully - there's a fairy village in there!

playing with dice, numbers, and counting

This guy likes to make the biggest numbers he can!
