Winter Is Here!

Great job sending your kids to school with warm clothes the past couple of days! We were really thrown into winter on Tuesday. In the colder weather we work hard to keep moving, which means more expeditions and hikes from our forest classroom. On Wednesday we trekked over to “Mt. Everest” and scaled the cliffs with a climbing rope. Everyone made it up, thanks to the cheers and support from their classmates! We’re looking forward to making fires in the coming weeks, and have started learning about fire safety and fire building.

Our work learning about bunnies has evolved into an interest in making toys, homes, and all sorts of creations for them. We’ve also started to do some math with the bunnies, like measuring how far they can hop, how much they weigh, and how big their feet are. We’ve been documenting thinking and learning in our giant “floor book.” Please ask if you’d like to see it!

Save the date for two exciting events coming up:
  1. On Tuesday December 10 there will be a Holiday Market from 4:00-6:00 in the gym. Every class at GCS will be selling a product that they have made from scratch, and there will be local vendors as well. The pre-k will be undoubtedly be selling the best product there…drum roll…worm castings! If  you are interested in “staffing” our table with your child please let me know!
  2. On Friday December 13th the pre-k and 4th grade will host a Solstice Celebration and Lantern Walk at school at 5:00. We’ll provide a light dinner, and will parade through the darkness to our fire circle to sing songs and drink hot cocoa together in this darkest time of year. More info to come, but save the date for this fun night!
Look for Scholastic Book Orders in this week's folder. Orders are due back on Friday December 6th! You can order online using the classroom code HJNLV, or send your order in to school.

We're finding see-saws everywhere! We found this one just off of our nature trail.

Leaf piles are so much fun!

We're creating all sorts of things for the bunnies. Here's a perfect little slide!

Our town librarian Cathi is as hearty as they come, braving the cold to read to us in the woods!

The bunnies came out for our morning play time on Wednesday.

Clover got all tuckered out hopping around the classroom and needed a break under the couch.

Hauling logs is a play "theme" that comes up again and again in pre-k!

So cozy!

A beautiful day for an expedition on our nature trail!

Here they come! It doesn't look it from the pictures, but the hill is truly very steep.

We all made it! What supportive kiddos cheering for their friends - such collective love!
