Only a few more days until winter break, but this group of kiddos has (for the most part) been healthy, happy, and full of energy. Here are a few highlights from the past couple weeks:
- We compared different versions of the classic folk tale “The Mitten,” including an oral version that is mostly in song.
- We read and re-enacted the book Mouse Counts. Ask your child to tell you how the story goes.
- We started learning about tracking, focusing mainly on the four different tracking patterns and sorting animals accordingly.
- We became animals, walking like deer and bounding like otters.
- Bay’s mom Kitsie joined us on Tuesday afternoon and led us in a couple of mindfulness activities along with a Valentines Day craft. Look for the wonderful wooden ornaments in your child’s backpack. Thanks Kitsie!
- We designed small group activities and games that emphasized the idea of the “group plan,” helping children understand that when they play with others they ideally have a common plan. For example, if a child takes out a board game with a friend the “group plan” is to follow the rules of the game together. It seems simple, but you’d be surprised how many conflicts arise from misunderstandings or miscommunication about a group plan!
Apologies for postponing the family cook out. Let’s try again for Friday March 6th, 5:00 pm in the woods. I’ll bring hot dogs, you bring a side dish or just yourselves.

It was so exciting to make some good sledding tracks again!
