One of the great parts of preschool is the teaching of skills through play. Young children learn best through play, and we try to create play situations that encourage their development. The medium for learning these past few days...snowmen! Not only were we able to have fun reading books and singing songs about snow people, but we also had a great time building them.
When building the snow people each child was assigned a "buddy" to build a snow person with. They worked together to decide how tall to make it, where to put it, and how to decorate it. When doing "buddy time" we partner children with peers who they don't often intentionally choose as their playmates, and we're always impressed with how much fun they have. The resulting snow family has become a fun place for us to play, and a great tool for further learning (see the pictures below).
Note, next week is February vacation week. The first day back to school after the break is Wednesday March 3rd. We'll miss you all during the long break!
It was a coooold start on Friday, but no match for your hearty children (though we did go inside after our morning circle:)
We hid ice hearts around Wildwood Forest for the kindergarteners to find

Working on our snow people
On Monday we did some measuring work. First we compared our own height to the height of the snow people, then we used different measuring sticks to make comparison (longer/shorter/taller).
