Pizza, Mail, and more...

Hi all - What a beautiful week we've had! It's hard to believe that we can start the day without mittens or winter jackets. This week we started having fun with a new theme: mail! During rest some children have sweetly been writing notes and drawing pictures for each other, and Bridget had the great idea to bring this interest outside! On Monday we read some books about mail and the postal service, and decorated mailboxes. On Tuesday we got busy writing letters! The kids had a great time writing, delivering, and receiving mail.

We also did some learning about another emerging interest this week that is very common in preschool, which is gender identity and body parts. After a couple of conversations, we read the book It Feels Good To Be Yourself: A Book About Gender Identity. I would highly recommend this book to interested families, and am happy to lend you our school copy. It beautifully and simply talks about different gender identities, including cisgender and transgender. We grownups often learn from children's books, and this one models wonderfully simple language to use when talking with your child about gender.

Enjoy some pictures from the beginning of the week!

Last Friday we harvested herbs from the school garden to put on our pizza! This kiddo is using scissors to cut them into tiny pieces.

We cooked the dough on both sides...

Added sauce and cheese, and cooked over the fire.

The pizza turned out great - some kids said "It's the best pizza I've ever had!"

Checking her mailbox!

There's poison ivy on the nature trail, so our expeditions have mostly been to the field. The sand pit is a popular and shady spot.

There goes the mail truck!

Most mornings start with a bug hunt these days.

We used unifix cubes to measure this worm - it was a big one!
