We were so happy to be back in person this week, and the general tone in the classroom was jolly and excited. One of the beautiful parts of pre-k is our ability to follow the interests of the children, and this group really loves science! We opened a doctor's/vet's office, read Ada Twist, Scientist and spent some time doing more science experiments. We also had our first expedition to Mt. Everest, and everyone cheered their classmates on as they took turns climbing the steep slope while pulling themselves up with a rope.
With the colder weather comes many wonderful opportunities to help develop your child's independence. Let them get dressed in the morning by themselves, and if possible give them the time they need to practice zipping up their own jackets.
We wish you the very best Thanksgiving break, and know that we feel very thankful that we get to spend our days with your remarkable children.
Enjoy some pictures from the week!
The new vet/doctor's office is a big hit. Adding costumes and more tools has really helped these kids get deep into the imaginary play.
A couple of animals getting prepped for surgery.
This eagle is getting a check up.
In our mindfulness groups we practiced checking in with someone when we make a mistake that hurst them. Instead of forcing apologies, we encourage kids to say "I didn't mean it, are you okay? What do you need?" Passing an egg around a circle with spoons allowed for many "mistakes" and ways to practice checkin in with our classmates.
Here is our new feelings chart! Children have loved checking in and putting their name on it when they arrive in the morning.
A couple of students were very interested in practicing with our peace wands. Here's the Problem Solving Kit with ideas for solutions.
The field provides a warm sunny spot to play on cold and windy days.
We took our first expedition to Mt. Everest, the biggest mountain at Guilford Central School! Children have to hold onto the rope while they climb up the slippery slope - what great motor practice!
Everyone chanted and cheered for their friends as they climbed!
