Almost Winter?

We've had a fun week starting to learn about what animals do to get ready for winter. We read some books, learned about the words migrate and hibernate, made some pine cone bird feeders, and made some fun observations of silly squirrels. Some wonderful resources that we love to use to learn about what's happening in nature at different times of the year are Mary Holland's books and blog. This week kids loved hearing short blurbs about bears searching for food, beavers collecting sticks before the ice freezes, and foxes hunting for voles and mice. Because children process and learn through play, they had a great time becoming many of these different animals.

Don't forget about our Solstice Celebration on Wednesday at 5:00. We'll parade and sing with lanterns, then enjoy some time together at the fire before sending you home with dinner.

Kristine and Bridget set up an x-ray line near our doctor's office.

Matching hats!

This crew is solving a problem with our problem solving cards. They decided they would take turns being the leader in their game.

We had fun learning how squirrels cache food for the winter.

Then we became squirrels and cached our own food! This hungry squirrel just woke up from a winter nap and went searching for the nuts he had hidden.

Our star of the week helped design a fun art project: pipe cleaners, pom poms, glue, colored paper, glitter!

We used pine needle paint brushes to paint wrapping paper. Kiddos have been hard at work on presents they're bringing home next week!

On Friday we whittled some sticks (with carrot peelers) so we could cook bread on a stick over the fire.

Wrap bread dough around a stick, then dip in cinnamon and sugar - yum!
Thank you to our wonderful fire tenders today!
