It's full on spring here at GCS! This week our work and play has turned towards farming and gardening. On Tuesday we put fertilized chicken eggs in our incubator, and are keeping our fingers crossed that we'll have some chicks to play with in 21 days. We also enjoyed exploring the school garden again, planting seeds, making art and cooking with dandelions.
As the end of the year draws near we adults can feel change in the air. Don't forget that the sense of time that exists in a 4 or 5 year old's mind is VERY different from our own. Four more weeks of school is a long time for them! We'll start talking about the transition to kindergarten during our last week together, and students will have a chance to spend time with their future kindergarten teacher. On that note, I'm happy to tell you that our current first grade teacher, Maggie Hansen, will be taking over our kindergarten next year. Maggie is excited to continue the pre-k/kindergarten collaboration, so we'll be seeing a lot of your children again next year. :)
DON'T FORGET - Friday June 3rd there is no school for pre-k.
Enjoy some pictures from the last two weeks!
Huge thanks to Asa's dad Dan for teaching us all about being a vet. Our kiddos have LOVED taking care of stuffed animals in the "vet's office," and now know the proper three layer bandaging technique.
This frog was a very agreeable patient.
Shaving cream on trays - always a fun sensory exploration!
Kristine gathered dandelions and violets with children for a fun art project...
Put the flowers on a white piece of paper and tap tap tap with a hammer!
Librarian Cathi still comes every Thursday with a book from the Guilford Free Library!
On Tuesday we put eggs into our incubator. This is a countdown chart that helps us know how many more days we have to wait until the chicks hatch.
Next to our incubator is a daily picture showing what is happening inside the eggs.
When we came in on Thursday we saw that Horton was sitting on our eggs!
The rope bridge has been a popular place to play this week.
Measuring with a kindergarten friend during our buddy time.
A couple of students have kept daily track of the growth of a beech bud. It's been so fun to watch it transform into a leaf!
Fun with patterns
Garden exploration with Farmer Sarah led to some delicious discoveries.
On Friday we made dandelion fritters over the fire.
We collected flowers, made a batter, dipped and fried them in oil.
This kiddo says "thumbs up!"
This kiddo went back for seconds and thirds!
