Into the Woods

Another beautiful week in the woods with this sweet crew! We had some fun setting up a new "house" in the forest, fixing the bumpy entrance into Wildwood Forest with tools and wheelbarrows, using glue sticks, and exploring insects. Here are some important notes and updates:

  • We've loved interacting with our resident chipmunk, and putting acorns at the edge of their hole so we can catch a glimpse. But we're out of acorns! If you have a good acorn source we'd LOVE some more - as many as you can collect!
  • This crew is very interested in playing "house," and so we're going to start a little study of families. Please text me or email me a picture of your family for our class bulletin board. Thank you!
  • Janice Stockman (our amazing former Early Childhood coordinator) and I are offering a 3 session parenting class this November. Dinner and childcare are included! If you're interested in strategies for forming strong relationships while also creating firm boundaries and expectations in your home, we'd love for you to join!
  • I've sent an email with information about volunteering in the classroom. We'd love to have help with our weekly fire tending that will start in November. And if fire tending doesn't interest you, let us know what does. We'd love to see you in the classroom!
  • Note, there is no school on October 10th or 11th.

Enjoy some pictures from the week:

We made herbed yogurt dip on Monday.

First we harvested fresh herbs from the garden...

Then we practiced our scissor skills by cutting the herbs into tiny pieces.

We mixed it with some yogurt and some vinegar, and yum!

Painting with a friend.

We did some good glue stick practice this week.

This awesome crew is helping with some erosion control.

We started a little brainstorm about what we know about insects.

Our music teacher Mr. Damon is joining us on Tuesday mornings for some songs at circle time - what fun!

There's such strong interest in playing "house" right now, so we brought some of our indoor dramatic play materials out to the forest. Kristine worked with kids to create a home, helping them choose roles and settle into some wonderful imaginative play.

This baby is getting some TLC.

This crew is making some dinner.

Farmer Amy visited on Friday to help us plant some seeds in a root-viewing container.

We went to the garden to find some worms to add to the seeds and soil.

"This little one is soooooo cute!"
