The Wind Blows East

Settling in, settling in! These kiddos are starting to pick up on our routines and rules, and are really forming some sweet social connections. So much of what we do in pre-k revolves around teaching social skills, and a big one for pre-k right now is taking turns. We've intentionally set up many situations where children can practice using the language "Can I have a turn when you're done?" followed by the reply, "sure!" It can be soooo hard to wait for a turn, but we keep on practicing practicing. You can do the same at home, modeling the language and patience it requires to wait for a turn!

The exciting news of the week is that we now have a porta potty, or "Pottysaurus" living at the edge of Wildwood Forest! This is possible through the Rich Earth Institute, who will compost the solids and use the liquids in part of their nutrient recycling program. Check out their website to find out more about their awesome work!

Enjoy some pictures from the week:

Kristine introduced materials from our "Inquiry Basket", including nets, binoculars, and other tools for collecting and making observations. And look what the kids found right away!

Our composting porta potty was delivered on Monday! Hurray!

We practiced the language we could use to ask friends for a turn, and taught our puppets our class rules.

We introduced our dress up clothes! This little wolf loved it. :)

Butterflies and princesses taking a rest in the castle.

Collecting baskets are great fun - look at all those treasures! We have a special little "museum" spot in our Cozy Shed to keep all the collections.

Mx. Nina joined us on our rainy Thursday for an art project.

We made different kinds of lines with our bodies, found different lines in nature, and then drew lines on paper!

Wow it was rainy on Thursday!

One of our monarchs started to emerge this week.

It was so fun to watch it work its way out of the chrysalis.

We experimented with paint rollers, taking turns and sharing paint.

Chalk! So much fun to decorate the forest.

A railroad track great for balancing with friends!
