Warm November

Welcome to November! We've had a quiet week in pre-k, with a steady rotation of students out sick. Thanks for doing your best to keep kids home when they have new symptoms. Our inside start is going great - this class is incredibly flexible, and they've been making the transition from inside to outside with ease. We'll start encouraging more independence dressing in warm clothing and personal items in the coming weeks.

Every day we have a story time right before lunch time. This week we read How to be a CatChipmunk Song, Dogger, Those Darn Squirrels, Moody Cow Meditates, and heard an oral story about a little girl who learns how to build a fire from some forest creatures. This class continues to be interested in squirrels and chipmunks, and we'll continue to learn about what these animals do to survive the coming winter.

Enjoy the details of our week through these pictures:

Our circle and story time books from the week. We do a lot of one on one or small group reading during play and rest time as well.

A jump back to last Friday and cupcake decorating...

Those are some lucky kids!

This week Mr. Castle worked on making a scarecrow with the class.

This mama kitty is taking good care of her kittens.

Ta da!

This week we started a new routine, ending rest a few minutes early so we have some time for quiet projects.

Ask your child about the mouse who built a home in our shed...

A little measuring project - these two worked together to line these sticks up in order of height.

Our morning start has been a great success, and has meant that there's more time for blocks!

We started to learn a bit more about fires this week. These two are using some play materials to "build" a fire in our dramatic play center.

Our morning circle time always includes a short game or teacher-directed activity. In this picture students are using small chalk boards to do some "graphics practice". We'll start teaching some more intentional straight and curved line formation in the coming weeks.

Mx. Nina led us in a fun art project with glue and yarn on Thursday.

Buddies!

Some circle time fun with rhythm sticks and our kindergarten buddies. Ask your kiddo if they can remember any of our rhythm stick songs - we've been practicing!
