Winter is Coming...

We had a great week back from Thanksgiving break. We happily welcomed a new classmate this week, and it looks like we'll have another child starting in pre-k in a few more weeks. It's great to see how well the class knows our rules and routines as we re-introduce the different areas of the classroom and teach our new friend all about pre-k.

We have a couple of themes that we're threading together right now. The first is BLOCKS and all things BUILDING. You'll see in the pictures below the wonderful creativity we're starting to see in our blocks area.

The second theme is ANIMALS IN WINTER, something that will carry us through the next couple of months. We love learning about how animals survive the Vermont winters, constructing shelters, and becoming animals.

Enjoy some pictures from the week:

The blocks creations have been growing!

This is a store, big enough to fit a "real kid" inside.

We've loved looking at books for inspiration for our building projects. Small table top blocks have been especially popular this week.

Tool time continues...

Town librarian Cathi Wilken started her weekly reading time with us on Wednesday. She'll come every week to share books from the Guilford Free Library - how wonderful!

Flood! Ask your kiddo how to play this favorite game of ours. :)

Another trip to Mt. Everest - these kiddos scrambled right up, no problem.

The Thursday wind was so intense it kept us out of the forest. But we had a great expedition around the neighborhood, trying to answer the questions What buildings are in our neighborhood? and What shapes do you see in our neighborhood?

Everyone got a clipboard and did some drawing of their observations.

The town garage has a particularly interesting building! What shape is that? One kiddo said "it's a half circle."

These two experimented for a long time before they were able to get this tall tower to stand up.

This pair is patiently waiting for the ice in their pots to melt in the sun. :)

Our dramatic play area has transformed to a woodland habitat. We'll get into building winter homes for the animals in the coming weeks.

A new favorite end of day activity: watching the clouds.
