You're Invited...

You're invited to our Pre-k and Kindergarten Solstice Celebration! On Tuesday December 20th we'll gather at the school at 5:00 for a parade to Wildwood Forest where we'll have a fire, popcorn and hot chocolate. We'll sing a couple of songs, enjoy each other's company, and send you on your way by ~5:45. We hope you can come celebrate this darkest time of the year with some light and community. Check backpacks for red folders with your formal invitation. :)

This week much of our work focused on re-creating some of the buildings we have in our neighborhood.  Modeled after a wonderful book called Dreaming Up, we planned, designed and built with unit blocks. Check out the pictures below!

I am finishing up work on our Teaching Strategies Gold assessment. The information from this assessment will inform the progress reports that will be sent home at the end of January. It's a lot of work, but gives us an incredibly thorough picture of your child's development!

Enjoy some pictures from this week:

We loved playing our wild turkey tracking game this week. Ask your child how to play!

Silly buddy time in the woods.

Hand warmers help keep us warm for outside snack on Fridays.

Kristine reads Dreaming Up to a small group of kids.

We visited the town garage, and then built...

...this!

We looked at pictures of the school, and then built...

this!

and this (complete with people inside)!
We checked out the shed in the woods, then built...

...this, complete with working doors!

And then we got more and more creative.

We like to use blocks for art too! These kiddos are tracing blocks to make interesting designs.

This week we cooked potato hash over the fire.

First we chopped up potatoes and onions.

Then we cooked over the fire! They were delicious...to the the teachers. Unfortunately most kids said "no thanks" after they tried them.

Kim dances with kids just before heading outside in the afternoon.
