Animals in Winter

We had an exciting start to our week with our first session of gym class with Coach Wells! We'll have gym every Tuesday after rest time. The class had a great time, and worked hard to follow along with Coach's directions and games.

Another exciting shift in our classroom is the new vet/doctor's office in our dramatic play center. Dress up clothes, tools, and plenty of stuffy patients have kept these health care workers busy!

And yet another exciting development this week: many classrooms at GCS received a grant to use a new mindfulness and meditation tool called Inner Explorer. This audio program guides children through short (under 5 minute) meditations. We're practicing these at circle time, and so far have worked on belly breathing, and the challenging task of closing our eyes while we breath. We'll keep you updated on our progress, but have your child show you what they know about belly breathing so far!

Valentine's Day is on Tuesday. We'll celebrate with a sweet treat over the fire, and will give kids an opportunity to hand out Valentines to their classmates. We love Valentine's Day in pre-k, and the opportunity to celebrate kindness and caring.

Enjoy a few pictures from the week:

More bird feeders! We had fun watching and identifying a white breasted nuthatch this week.

Inquiry time in the woods - look at these little scientists!

Board games provide excellent opportunities to practice turn taking. This particular game, Feed the Woozle, also incorporates some fun motor activities.

We read a fun version of the classic story The Mitten on Friday. These kiddos are having fun acting it out with their Kindergarten buddies.

A new little listening station has been a fun area to explore.

A perfect little house - thanks for the help Mr. Castle!

So many tool stuck in the snow and ice - this kiddo is doing some important extraction work.

We painted some boxes to add to our dramatic play center.

And then the center turned into a doctor's office! These doctors are getting ready to take care of their patients.
