Black Lives Matter in Schools Week

How nice to get in to a flow with a full week of school this week. We had fun exploring the different principles of the Black Lives Matter movement, including Loving Awareness, Empathy, Diversity, and Restorative Justice. It's wonderful how seamlessly these principles fit with our preschool social emotional curriculum, and how naturally these concepts come to pre-k students.

Did you know that children on average get one hour less of sleep than they did 30 years ago, with long term developmental consequences? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that four and five year olds get around 12 hours of sleep a night. This is not meant to be alarmist or as a way to pass judgement, but is just a reminder about the importance of a good night’s sleep for your child, particularly with all this sickness going around!

Enjoy a few pictures of the fun we had this week:

Buddies!

Check out those interesting tracks - the kids think a turkey was visiting the playground...

New bird feeders for the forest. Our forest friends were happy!

Some new cars and trucks in the blocks area made for some creative play.

A new fort

We made some pizza on Friday

...and cooked it over the fire.

One thing is certain, this class loves pizza!

This kiddo is helping to fix a broken shovel - great practice with a screw driver.

Every Wednesday we "Eat the Rainbow" with Farmer Sarah. This week we tried orange foods: carrots and orange slices. Everyone tried them, and many kids liked them!

Friday weather was perfect for frozen bubbles! Try it at home - it's a magical experience.

Ready to face that cold!

Looking at the sky is nice even on the coldest of days.
