What a surprise it was to walk into Wildwood Forest on Monday and find animal tracks everywhere. We've had such a great time examining tracks, and searching for more evidence of animals. Our plans to start learning about trees have taken a backseat while we focus on all things tracking.
Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday or Tuesday. There is teacher in-service on Monday and Town meeting is Tuesday - maybe I'll see you there! Also coming up are spring conferences. Please follow this link to sign up for a slot. Conference Sign Up
Did your kiddo tell you about "Shark Fin"? In our mindfulness work we've learned a new calming down/focus/breathing strategy. Have your child show you how to do it. It's just as effective for grown ups as it is for kids! We ALL love the Shark Fin!
Enjoy some pictures from the week:
We found a deer bed while out on an expedition.
On Monday we took some animal track sticks into the woods to see if we could find any matches. One way to identify animal tracks is my counting how many toes they have. This creature has only TWO toes. Do you know what it is?
In the classroom we did some sorting with track stamps.
Back in the woods some kiddos were inspired to make bird feeders, so we pulled out a bucket of birdseed and some peanut butter.
We put our bird feeders around the forest, and the next day there were all sorts of surprises!
Looking closely for evidence...
How many toes on this animal?
Can you spy the tracks here?
After leaving it overnight there was quite a funny surprise in this little feeder...
Scat! We think an animal got confused and thought it was a toilet. :)
These kids are enjoying a book with Cathi.
Who's hiding under those blankets?
We enjoyed some hot chocolate with our kindergarten buddies on Friday.
These two are forming a little coyote pack.
Farmer Sarah joined us on Friday and helped us tap a maple tree! It's sugaring season!
Eat the rainbow - green day! Some cautious but wonderfully willing kale tasters. :)
We're so happy to have snow again!
