What a wonderful FULL week! This week we honed in on our tree study a bit, tackling the interesting question "Can trees without leaves be alive?" We built a sugaring operation in our blocks area, and we had a lot of fun spending a bit more time outside. As the snow melts the treasures and lost items of Wildwood Forest are revealing themselves, much to the delight of the class.
Don't forget to sign up for conferences next week, and remember about the early release at 11:30 on Thursday and Friday.
Enjoy some pictures from the week!
This group is working to "tap" this tree, setting up some buckets for sap collection.
Collecting some sap
An evaporator, ready to go!
Boil that sap down to get...maple syrup!
Farmer Sarah had the REAL evaporator running this week. We got to visit and taste some of the boiled sap - sweet!
Nothing like a muddy snow pile! 😆
Lots of interesting thinking about trees without leaves, and lots of further explorations..
Each child tagged a bud on a tree with no leaves. We measured the bud, and will measure again next week to see if the bud is changing at all.
We also cut some branches from trees without leaves and brought them inside for dissection.
These kiddos noticed right away that just under the bark is a layer of green!
We had fun making popcorn over the fire on Wednesday. Thanks for coming, Jaclyn!
Our first expedition in a long time - climbing icy Mt. Everest with backpacks on was really challenging!
It's warm enough to get the instruments out again :)
And the Inquiry Basket!
After a special delivery of some scrap wood (Thanks John!) for our woodworking table these two set out to build a mailbox.
We had our final "Eat the Rainbow" session with Farmer Sarah on Friday. Have your child tell you all about the good fruits and veggies we've eaten.
Eating all the colors together is the MOST delicious.
