Pumpkins and Apples

Happy Friday! This week we want to give you an update on our Kindness Curriculum work. So far we've been working to understand the word attention, and practicing ways to pay attention on the outside of our body (using different senses) and the inside of our body (being mindful of emotions). This week we started to work on emotion recognition, reading the emotions on other people's faces and bodies. Believe it or not, this is the foundation of empathy. True empathy, or the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes, doesn't develop for a few more years, but being able to recognize the emotions that another person is feeling is an important skill for young children to develop. You can help at home by verbally labeling your own emotions, along with those of your child.

So much happened this week - take a look at these pictures to see more of what we were up to...

We had an incredible donation of a LOT of acorns on Monday. What fun! Chippy and (gasp, a second chipmunk) Chippalina quickly discovered the stash, and we had so much fun watching them ferry acorns to their dens.

Dissecting sunflowers

The Chippies wrote us a letter!

It was nailed onto the shed door on Tuesday morning. Such a fun surprise!

Time to open the Pumpkin Factory!

Our woodworking station is just behind our shed, and pumpkins are such a great way to introduce hammers and nails.

After getting our letter from Chippy we had to write back.

We found a tree for our birdhouse...

Ta Da! We can watch a livestream video of what's happening inside the birdhouse. Now we just need some birds!

A busy cafe in the dramatic play corner.

We had such a fun Farm and Field day on Thursday along with the rest of the school. Big thanks to Farmer Sarah for coordinating.

We visited with a cow from the Franklin Farm.

We did a cooking project with Lisa from the Coop.

And what a fun field trip today!

What a crew - we teachers are just LOVING this fun, kind, and silly group of kids.

Enjoy the long weekend everyone!
