Lunar New Year's Surprise!

It was a short, but eventful week back from break. After a break we always take time to practice and review routines, stepping back to the basics, and this class is just awesome!

On Thursday we learned about Lunar New Year (or Chinese New Year, as it's called in Taiwan where I went during the vacation). The class LOVED watching this short video that tells the story of the monster Nian, and the origin of Chinese New Year. Ask your kiddo why lanterns, fireworks, and the color red are used to celebrate every year. We also tried some Taiwanese candies that I brought back with me, and WOW, we were all in for a surprise! Check out the list below to see the "flavor profile" descriptions. Song lyrics in the making, for sure.

Here are a few pictures from the week. Enjoy!

Wildwood Forest with MORE snow - we love it

Can you guess who made these tracks? Kids were noticing the line that runs between the footprints, a little tail, perhaps?

Enough snow to make a tunnel near our fire circle...

We're on top of March self-portraits!

The melting snow made a fun little stream on the playground. This kiddo decided to create a dam.

Taiwanese candy flavors? This is what the class thought they tasted like. 😁

We tapped a tree, and sap is running! Ask your kiddo to sing our new sap song for you.

An insect in the snow! We spent a lot of time studying this little guy.
