Wow, we're really starting to settle into a flow here in pre-k. If you were a fly on the wall this morning you would have seen a beautiful scene of children engaged in all different activities: playing tag with a friend, examining a grasshopper with our inquiry basket tools, playing "family", making paths on the ground with rakes, painting with a buddy at our easel, and playing with blocks at a table. Kids are learning each other's names, and starting to form sweet friendships. These pictures will help tell the story of our week.
Play dough is a great sensory activity, and a wonderful way to introduce scissors. Cutting through the dough provides just the right amount of resistance.
The sandbox in the field is a popular spot.
One of our "small group" activities this week focused on How to Hold Animals. We had a great time practicing with worms, slugs, and rolly-pollys.
We have a new chicken coop on the playground, and the chickens have arrived!
These two are using a field guide to explore the forest.
Teamwork!
We opened up some climbing trees this week - ask your child about our climbing rules.
We also introduced our "collecting baskets" - great for gathering forest treasures.
These two are sorting their treasures into our Nature Museum.
Our willow field is so full of fun nooks and crannies, including our weeping willow fort.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of our first favorite books. Retelling the story with props is an exciting activity for many kids!
On Friday we harvested from the garden and made pesto with Farmer Sarah. It was delicious - ask your kiddo what we put into it!
Painting with a friend.
This little buddy couldn't get enough of the pre-k magic, and patiently crawled from hand to hand for a good portion of the morning. "His first name is Grass, and his middle name is Leaf." 💗
Have a great weekend everyone!
